France condemns destruction of schools in Swat

Updated at: 1840 PST, Thursday, January 22, 2009:

ISLAMABAD: France sent a strong message to Pakistan on Wednesday, saying that the international law demanded of it to protect women and children who are being attacked by the forces of obscurantism and fanaticism.

The much needed and welcome message from the French Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, for the oppressed segment of society, came on the heels of the frenzy of attacks on schools in the Swat valley.

“France condemns in the strongest possible terms the destruction of five schools on January 19 in the city of Mingora, in the Swat valley of Pakistan,” said the statement of the French Ministry made available by the Embassy of France in Islamabad.

As the paralyzed security forces fight a losing battle against the militants and the PPP government appears a helpless spectator, the French Ministry says, “This is another example of the too frequent violence against Pakistani young girls and women who are being deprived of their fundamental right to education. Through these actions, the Taliban extremists have once more demonstrated their obscurantism and fanaticism”.

Taking a tough approach, the French ministry called upon the Pakistan government to do everything it can to protect the rights of these women. “It is however by the acknowledgment of the dignity of women that this great country (Pakistan) will achieve peace and development. Pakistani authorities have to do everything they can to protect the fundamental rights of women and children as recognized by international law. France is encouraging them to do so and stands on their side in the fight against extremism, fanaticism and terrorism,” adds the statement.

In a meeting of this correspondent with the Ambassador of France Daniel Jouanneau at his residence on Wednesday, he said that public sentiments are very high against the cruel method of these extremist forces against women and children in Swat.

In this regard he said that leading French women groups and feminists have raised their voices in Paris and also expressed their keenness to meet with Pakistan’s ambassador in Paris to convey their apprehensions.

It is to be remembered that earlier when the Taliban government in Kabul made life unbearable for women and the girl child in Afghanistan, it were on the streets of Paris that voices were raised against some very inhuman practices.

Again it was France that had honoured a Pakistani rape victim, Mukhatran Mai, during the regime of Pervez Musharraf, and she was specially invited to Paris to tell the story of her survival there.

FAO : Adnan Gill, los Angeles & Wg-Crd (r) Bahre Kamal, Peshawar

    Dear Sirs,
With respect Adnan Gill, how does the name of "Punjab" as Punjab, change/improve the law and order situation, jumpstart the economy, help rebuild the destroyed schools, do anything to provide people with flour or electricity, stop the drone attacks and help people in ways that will actually improve their lives.
Further would you take a moment to educate us, as to why, will a simple change in name (complicated only by the Punjabis) from NWFP to Pakhtunkhwa stop the Punjabi dominated/ruled Pakistan, for once, solve the problems of ALL the Pakistani people instead of running the country to SERVE ONLY, "Punjab as the big fat pig province of Pakistan".

With respect Wg-Crd (r) Bahre Kamal, you are confusing Khans with Pakhtuns, all Pathans are Pakhtuns and all Pakhtuns are Pathans.
We say Pakhtun in Pakhtu and say Pathan in Hindi/Urdo.
All the clans of NWFP are Pakhtuns under the umbrella of "Pakhtu" in the same way everyone in Swat is a Swati.
Places are named according to the language its people speak, England for the English, Wales for the Welsh, Punjab for the Punjabis.
The US, Australia and New Zealand cannot be called England as they are NOT English but are English ruled/owned, in the same way India, Pakistan cannot be called England.
So being a landless Pakhtun myself, I have no hesitation in saying that we (Pakhtuns) do form a majority in the NWFP.
NWFP is not an appropriate name for the province and Pakhtunkhwa is because it is what an elected assembly of the province agreed upon, my family's politics are PML and I do not agree with the politics of ANP but I will abide/respect this decision for if we do not, we waste time and than fail to solve the problems facing us, as Adnan Gill listed.
You Wg-Crd (r) Bahre Kamal, should of all people must understand this better as it is your job in uniform to uphold the civic authority and NOT belittle it.

    With respect.
    Regards

Long March necessary to bring PPP on right tack: Safdar

    Dear Sirs,
I refer to the recent article in your papers and would like to comment on the following:-

“Talking on changing the name of NWFP to Pakhtunkhwa, the PML-N leader pointed out that the resolution passed by the Provincial Assembly is not mere enough for changing name of province but a resolution with two –third majority from the National Assembly should be passed.
Without the amendment in the constitution, neither the province should be called as Pakhtunkhwa nor written, he added.”

Why, so the Punjabis can use the Parliament of Pakistan as a tool to “oppress” other nations and maintain “Punjab as the big fat pig province of Pakistan”?

If “Provincial Assemblies” have no such authority why have them or is it that only “Punjab Provincial Assembly” should run as an assembly whilst the rest are just reduced to talk shops by the “Punjabis in Islamabad”.

Such Punjabi attitudes will lead to calls for the “abolition” of the (National Assembly) “Punjabi Assembly in Islamabad” by the rest of the Pakistanis and the country to be run by the “Senate” and by the “Provincial Assemblies” because Pakistan does NOT belong to “Punjabis” alone.

    Yours sincerely

Bashir Bilour brags by Mahabat Khan Bangash- Peshawar

    Bashir Bilour brags

Dear Mr. Mahabat Khan Bangash- Peshawar,

May, I ask you,why you are so much against the name “Pakhtunkhwa”, if you are so much more of a Pakhtun than Mr. Bashir Bilour and what’s wrong with “a feather of peacock in his tail”?
You too, can have “a feather of peacock in your tail”.

“Accept Pakhtunkhwa or move to Punjab”.
This is not “Bashir Bilour brags”, it is sound advise, if you are so much against the Pakhtun majority, than why live with them.
Your Nawaz Shariff, will give exactly the same advise to anyone who was living in Punjab but was against the name “Punjab”.
“Is NWFP his ancestor’s property”, yes it is and it is your’s too if you want it.
If you don’t, either shut up or get lost from NWFP.

    Yours sincerely
    – a minority resident who respects the majority.

Zafarul Haq asks govt to ensure end to drone attacks Friday, January 30, 2009

    Dear Sirs,
I refer to the recent article in your papers and would like to comment on the following:-

“Without naming the Awami National Party, the central vice-president of PML Saranjam Khan said that some forces were bent on breaking the country in the name of ‘Pakhtunkhwa’.”

Yes, some “forces” are bent on breaking the country in the name of “Pakhtunkhwa” and they are called the PML-N group, just as the PPP did over Bangladesh.

The PML-N stands for Punjabi Mad League – Nawaz.

    Yours sincerely

    US agenda to re-map Pakistan
    Pakistan Observer

    Col Ghulam Sarwar (R)
    12/02/09

    Dear Col Ghulam Sarwar (R),

I refer to your above article and comment on:

“In case of Pakistan, the plan will not be easy to accomplish. While no prevention role is expected of Pakistan’s political leadership, Pakistan military – as guarantor of national security and supported by pro-population will fight off such moves. Hopefully, the military will stand a much better chance in successfully maintaining national integrity.”

In my opinion and in this regard, the “army” is far more “BEMAN” than the “political leadership” because if the army cannot stop the deadly-attacks by US drones and troops inside Pushtun’s tribal territory inside of Pakistan, how can it prevent the US agenda to re-map Pakistan.
Or is it, perhaps if these deadly-attacks by US drones and troops were taking place inside Punjab, killing Punjabis rather than Pakhtuns, than the army will do something about them.
This would mean that, the Pakistan army is even more “BEMAN” but in Pakistan, Punjab is the “MOTHER” of “BEMANI”, the Pakistani army is the perpetrator of this “BEMANI” and the current misery of the Balochi, Pakhtun population of Pakistan is as a result of this “BEMANI”.
Shouldn’t cowards like you keep your big mouths shut.
Should you at this point shout out coward at me.
I am a civilian, not paid to be brave and protect “all” the people of a country.

    Yours sincerely

    Saving Swat
    Charles Ferndale
    Karachi
    Wednesday February 04, 2009 (0712 PST)

    Dear Charles Ferndale,

People of Baluchistan, FATA and NWFP has always seen the most oppressive and cruel face of the state of Pakistan.
Any sane person will come to the conclusion you made about the situation in Swat but there is logic to this madness by the Pakistani state/army.
The logic is and has been for the entire history of Pakistan, is to keep Baluchistan, FATA and NWFP as deprived, as backward as possible to ensure that the people of these regions can NEVER assert their "rights", to education, their land, their languages and their basic human right to live because ONCE these people are able to assert these rights, than it will be the END of Punjab being the big fat pig province of Pakistan.
Pakistan , you see is and never has been Pakistan, it is in fact Punjabistan and Punjabis wants to make sure that "Punjab remains the big fat pig province of Pakistan" via their Punjabi army, hence why, the "Pakistani" army have created catastrophic conditions in terms of "human rights" in these areas.
It is such actions by the Pakistan army that may explain, why the people of Baluchistan, FATA, NWFP may hate the so called "Taliban" but they loath the Pakistan Army/State.
The Punjabi/Pakistani army is in fact carrying out "ethnic cleansing" of Pakhtuns & Baluchis under the cover of the "war on terror".
It is a win, win, situation for the Punjabis as the Punjabi/Pakistani government collects western aid from this "war on terror game" to be spent on "Punjab – the big fat pig province of Pakistan" and make the poor, innocent Baluchi & Pakhtun population "bleed".
Long live the people of Baluchistan, FATA & NWFP and may God protect them from all their enemies inside/outside of Pakistan.

    Yours sincerely
